Potato Stuffed Idli Make At Home

Potato Stuffed Idli:

Ingredients:

For the Idli Batter:

  • 2 cups idli rice
  • 1 cup urad dal (black gram)
  • Salt to taste

For the Potato Filling:

  • 3-4 medium-sized potatoes, boiled and mashed
  • 1 tablespoon oil
  • 1 teaspoon mustard seeds
  • 1 teaspoon urad dal
  • 1 teaspoon chana dal
  • 1/2 teaspoon turmeric powder
  • 1/2 teaspoon red chili powder (adjust to taste)
  • A pinch of asafoetida (hing)
  • Salt to taste
  • Coriander leaves for garnish (optional)

Instructions:

For the Idli Batter:

  1. Rinse the idli rice and urad dal separately and soak them in water for 4-6 hours.
  2. Grind the soaked urad dal to a smooth and fluffy batter. Transfer it to a large bowl.
  3. Grind the soaked idli rice to a slightly coarse texture. Mix it with the urad dal batter.
  4. Add salt and mix well. Allow the batter to ferment overnight or for at least 8 hours.

For the Potato Filling:

  1. Heat oil in a pan. Add mustard seeds, urad dal, and chana dal. Let them splutter.
  2. Add asafoetida, turmeric powder, and red chili powder. Stir well.
  3. Add the boiled and mashed potatoes. Mix everything together and cook for a few minutes.
  4. Add salt to taste. Garnish with coriander leaves if desired. Set the filling aside.

Making Stuffed Idlis:

  1. Grease the idli molds with a little oil.
  2. Pour a spoonful of idli batter into each mold.
  3. Place a small amount of the potato filling on top of the batter.
  4. Cover the filling with a little more batter, ensuring it's completely enclosed.
  5. Steam the idlis in a steamer for about 10-15 minutes or until they are cooked through.
  6. Allow the idlis to cool for a few minutes before removing them from the molds.

Serve these Potato Stuffed Idlis with coconut chutney or sambar for a delicious and satisfying meal. Adjust the spices in the potato filling according to your taste preferences.
